I recently witnessed an around 10 year old boy eating a piece of cheesecake with such relish and pure delight, I couldn’t stop staring.

Every single tiny bite he took his face would be filled with awe and amazement over how wonderful the cheesecake was. He ate it slowly and deliberately like he was drinking a glass of fine wine or driving a luxury one of a kind car. He was savoring slowly. 

If you have kids or have ever been around kids, that is a hard thing for a 10 year old boy to do!  But there he was, slowly eating this delicious piece of cheesecake.

It reminded me of times when I loved something so much I never wanted it to end.  A great book, a weekend at the beach, an evening surrounded with your favorite people.  It reminded me of how many times I rushed through something good because I was too busy to slow down. All the times I didn’t stop and enjoy something because too much was going on around me.

And even though this little boy was in a loud, crowded restaurant, he was in his own little world eating that cheesecake.

This week’s focus will be on savoring slowly.  Not just food, but really everything we do throughout the day.  Finding the delight in everything and fully being completely in the present moment no matter what is going on around you.

bonjour beautiful: don’t sweat it

You’ll never believe what happened to me!

Monday, I took the day off and spent it at the beach.  It was amazing and wonderful. The weather was perfect, the ocean temperature was dreamy, oh it was just delightful.

Except one small, teeny, tiny thing.

The whole beach saw my lady parts.

………Yup……….

I mentioned the water temperature was dreamy. It was.  But the waves, not so much, unless I was surfing but I was just simply going for a dip in the sea. And my bikini bottom decided it wanted to try to take a dip in the sea without me.

And there I am standing in front my fellow beach goers….exposed.

For a moment I was mortified.  But then I nervously laughed and realized what the heck, it’s not that big of a deal, it was quite humorous honestly.

So what a perfect theme for this week is to not sweat the small stuff.  Who cares if the whole beach see’s your lady parts?!  Laugh it off and go on with your day. Who cares if you fall in front of a large crowd?! Laugh it off and go on with your day.  Whatever your moment of being mortified might be, laugh it off and go on with your day.

bonjour beautiful: movement

If you’re anything like me, I spend the majority of my day sitting and o-m-g my hips hate me.  It’s ultra important for me to find movement when I’m not sitting at my desk so my hips get some relief.

Besides saving my hips, movement for me is magical. It’s connection to my thoughts, a big stress reliever and a huge confidence builder.  But quite frankly I used to hate movement because I thought it meant just going to the gym and running on the treadmill.  Not my idea of fun.  Once I broke the treadmill dread and learned that there are so many other ways of finding movement my life quite literally changed for the better.

A good movement will give you energy, excitement, confidence, push you to your limits in all aspects and allow you to grow and build.  This week, take some time to explore and play with new movement. Things you’ve never done before and even things you might have thought you hated.

bonjour beautiful: Preparing for Tomorrow

How many times do you catch yourself saying “Oh, I’ll do that tomorrow.”?

I’m a recovering IDTT’er (I’ll do that tomorrow’er). 

From getting gas to doing the dishes to putting way laundry, it’s always going to be done “tomorrow”.

The problem with IDTT is that it is not preparing your future (tomorrow) for success.  Unexpected casualties arise every single day.  When you think you’ll have time for something tomorrow, boom a minor disaster happens and now you are stressing trying to get everything done.

You’re driving home from work, stuck in traffic after a long, crazy day and you know you need gas in order to get to work tomorrow.  A classic IDTT’er will tell themselves they can get gas in the morning on the way to work. No problemo.  Then morning comes and you spill your green smoothie all over the floor and have to spend 20 minutes cleaning it up.  Now your short on time, need a new breakfast option and still have to get gas.  Hello stress.

Thankfully, IDTT recovery is possible with daily strategy implementation 🙂

Every evening, perhaps on your drive home from work, create a mental list of everything you can do that night to help make tomorrow run smoother.  Get gas, pre-make your breakfast or lunch, plan your wardrobe and iron your clothes, pre-pack your yoga/gym clothes. The more you can get done the night before the better your day will go.

It’s all about setting yourself up for success.

bonjour beautiful: simple luxury

Welcome to the first letter of bonjour beautiful.

This week is all about luxury, simple luxury.  It’s about finding little ways to bring richness and rarity into your life when you’re feeling least luxurious.

For me two of these simple luxuries are my L’Occitaine Shea Butter Hand Cream and my Smith’s Rosebud Lip gloss.  Simple, right?

I keep both of these in my desk at work.  Anytime I need a break, a sense of enjoyment, a brief moment of luxury I turn around, open my drawer and break out these two simple joys.  I soak up the scent and the richness of the L’Occitaine Hand Cream and the Rosebud Lip Gloss instantly gives a perk.  It’s one minute of delight that makes my least luxurious moments feel filled with luxury.

Now it’s your turn. What makes you feel luxurious and rich?  It does not have to be a product it could be as simple as adding cucumber to your water glass or a post it note with your favorite inspiring quote that takes you someplace else if only for a moment.  Whatever it is, take this week to start to make it a daily habit when you need a sense of luxury to allow yourself the 5 minutes to do just that, whatever that is for you!
